Nepal 10 Days DIY Itinerary

Updated June 9, 2019

Traveling to Nepal has always been a dream even though I didn’t know much about it. Prior to creating our itinerary, I was only familiar with the Himalayas and Sherpas. So one thing I knew was that the landscape would not disappoint. I’ve been to India and I’ve been to China, and they’re two very, very different countries. So I was not sure what to expect in a country that they sandwich in between. Turned out, Nepal was all the good things I loved about those two, and a whole lot more on its own.

On this trip, we got to experience nature unlike before. This was undoubtedly on our top 3 travels within the year, and maybe even the best one if I’m not an undecided person. From Nagarkot, Bandipur, to the airplane window, we got to see the Himalayas from different point-of-views. We even got to paraglide in the middle of a group of eagles!

Pros of a Customized Tour

I honestly think getting a customized tour package from Madan of Adventure Leaders Nepal saved us a lot of time and hassle. The tour was a collaboration between my plans for this trip and suggestions from Madan. After fixing everything and agreeing on the price (yes we bargained), it was hassle-free after that. We just hop on to a car or bus and we were off to our next destination. We got to avoid the craziness of local transportation. I think it’s the hardest country to commute at out of all I’ve visited. So either hire a taxi, around 2~10 USD within the city or fix a plan with a travel agency. Nepalese people are really kind and helpful so don’t be shy to ask around.

Flight Details

This was supposed to be a Bangladesh-Nepal backpacking trip but because of the national elections in Bangladesh, we weren’t able to apply for a tourist visa. So you might’ve noticed that we transited through Dhaka, instead of direct flights from Kuala Lumpur which would have been a bit cheaper. We actually rescheduled our Dhaka to Kathmandu flight to be connected to our first flight after learning about the situation in Bangladesh. Good thing we contacted Biman Air immediately because they were quite difficult to reach. When planning your trip to Nepal, remember that there are cheaper and faster flights from KL than ours.

We went through a few obstacles just for this trip to push through. We basically had to change our whole plan after the Bangladesh Embassy told us that they were not accepting visa applications at that time because of the elections. That was after gathering all our visa requirements that includes an invitation letter from a travel agency in Bangladesh. It was heartbreaking not getting to visit the country, but in a better way, it gave us more time to explore Nepal. Which made all the hardships worth it.

Nepal was incomparable. From the crazy shopping streets of Kathmandu to the breathtaking views of Pokhara. This was a trip of a lifetime. We missed out on Bangladesh (which I hope we get to visit soon), but we got more than we expected in Nepal. This country showed us landscapes that we could only imagine, food that we’ve never heard of, and people that welcomed us with all their hearts. This was a very special trip and an unforgettable one for sure.
