Looking for a legitimate tour company online for a Canyoneering activity in Cebu is not an easy thing to do. Good thing I found Highland Adventures PH from multiple recommendations online. It also helps that they have a neat website that doesn’t look sketchy or scam-y.
What I love about their service is that they have flexible packages that you can choose from, depending on the types of activities you want to do. I opted for Package D which was a combination of Osmeña Peak and Canyoneering. I highly suggest this tour since it has enough activities for a half-day adventure, giving you the rest of the afternoon to relax at your hotel.
Not related, but I just want to point out that I consciously decided to skip the Oslob Whaleshark Encounter for ethical reasons. I won’t go into details but you can learn more about it here or just by googling it.
A motorcycle picked us up in our resort in Moalboal at quarter to 5AM, and we went straight to the jump off point for Osmeña Peak. The driver also served as our guide for this part of the trip, but we had a separate guide for the short hike. The actual peak was less than 30 minutes of light hiking. It was not a sunny morning so my photos were pretty bad. Especially that GoPros are not good at handling gloomy weather.
What I loved about Highland Adventures PH is that everything was taken care of already. We didn’t have to pay any environmental fees or entrance fees, so less worries for us. We only had to pay for our own breakfast in between the two activities, which was optional if you already had one earlier.
At around 9AM, our guide brought us to their office, to settle our dues and sign the waiver. They gave us proper gears and we prepped for the next activity. Then there was another motorcycle ride to the starting point for the canyoneering activity. It was a 2km walk, up and down a hilly path, from the starting point to the first jump.
According to our guide, the first jump was 20 feet high. By the looks of the place, I don’t think there’s a way to option out of it. I didn’t really expect it to be as exciting as it was. I thought jumping to the water was super easy, but it was actually a bit scary, especially on tight landing areas. Our guide, Kuya Noli, was super helpful and made every jump really fun. The sight helped a lot too, it’s easier to forget about the fear when you’re in a paradise. Before the trip, I thought photos were just super saturated to make the water look blue, but it was actually like that in person. I’ve never seen anything like it. I just wanted to jump and feel that blue water on my face.
There was a total of 7 major jumps, i think, and a lot of them are optional. My favorite is where we had to slide down with the current to a small waterfall. I also did the 2 highest jumps, 30 and 40 feet. I even broke my GoPro monopod after jumping off the 30 feet cliff. Some landings were bad, butt-first or flailing hands, but I’ve learned to keep my body straight for the highest jump of all, a leap from the third level of Kawasan Falls. I was hesitant in the beginning, but then I got inspired by these group of Japanese girls who were super brave, so I decided to just do it.
At the 1st level of Kawasan Falls was a huge picnic area where we had our lunch, included in our tour package. We preselected our food earlier at their office while signing the waiver. The food was pretty good, nothing special, definitely made us full. After eating, we walked about 1.5 Km to the public entrance of the falls and back to their office. Our motorcycle guide earlier picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel in Moalboal (yes, still included in the tour package).
- 1 Day Tour Package D – PHP 2,200.00 per person
- Breakfast – PHP 47.50 per person
Overall, the tour package was super worth it for its price. Considering that Moalboal is a 2 towns away from the activities made our adventure hassle-free. Plus everything was properly arranged for us already. Click here to check out Highland Adventures PH’s Tour Packages with the rates if you click on an item. You can also message them on their Facebook page here, which was how we booked our tour. I highly recommend them for an easy no-stress trip to southern Cebu!
